Prof. Dr. Marc Vooijs nominated for ESTRO Board representing Radiobiology

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Marc Vooijs, Manager Research and Education at MAASTRO clinic and Radiobiology Researcher for the Department Radiotherapy Oncology of the Academic Hospital Maastricht and the Department Radiotherapy of the University of Maastricht, is nominated to represent radiobiology in the board of the European SocieTy for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO).

Marc Vooijs’ research focuses on exploiting the tumor microenvironment to improve combination treatments with radiotherapy in cancer. This is done by, among others, models that are used to identify key drivers of treatment resistance and biomarkers for tissue toxicity. Research in the laboratory has led to several investigator driven (first-in-human) clinical trials conducted in collaboration with the MUMC+ and MAASTRO Clinic researchers. Currently, new lead compounds are under investigation.
